Ethan Meuser posted his second straight double-double when the NEPA Elite Coyle 17U boys team closed out a perfect two-day stop at Spooky Nook Sports in Manheim, Lancaster County Sunday with a 48-39 victory over Expressions Select.
The win allowed the Coyle team to finish 3-0 in the Hoop Group’s Summer Jam Fest and run its winning streak to six games, including the last three at the Atlantic City Jam Fest, immediately before heading to Spooky Nook.
Justice Shoats controlled the tempo, scoring 12 points and dishing out 6 assists while running the offense.
Expressions got within a point before a Nick Nocito layup gave the Coyle team a three-point lead.
Meuser then scored while getting fouled. His missed free throw resulted in a dead-ball rebound going to the Coyle team, which then got a 3-pointer from Jason Shields to open up more breathing room.
The Joyce team won pool titles in both Atlantic City and Manheim.
In other NEPA Elite Monday boys action at Spooky Nook:
The Joyce 15U team edged the Massachusetts Wolves, 38-37; 6th Boro Hoops handled the Wignot 17U boys team, 84-48; SJ Hoops Elite-HGSL defeated Van Zelst 16U, 70-34; and Grindhouse Hoops edged Miller 16U, 46-44, in consolation games.
Chase Scanlan’s steal and assist set up Will Marion for the tying and winning points with about 40 seconds left.
Marion worked with Gabe Tanner to force a turnover and the Joyce team protected the ball while running out the clock.
Ryan McGoff, filling in as head coach of the Joyce team, went with a small lineup of Scanlan, Marion, Tanner, Michael Cumbo and Mason Fedor for about the last five minutes.
Cumbo’s three-point play gave the Joyce team a two-point lead with two minutes left, but Massachusetts managed to take the lead one last time before Marion’s game-winner.
