ROUNDUP: Home runs power Lakeland, Northwest softball teams

Joan Clauss-Walton led the way as Lakeland started fast, allowing the Lady Chiefs to finish their District 2 Class 2A softball quarterfinal early.

Lakeland scored six runs in each of the first two innings on the way to a 12-0, five-inning victory over Montrose Monday.

Clauss-Walton threw a shutout. She also tripled and scored in the first inning, then hit a three-run homer in the second.

Marissa Boles led off the game with a double, then scored. She singled in a run in the second inning.

Angelica Nowak hit a two-run, first-inning homer after Colby White singled in Clauss-Walton.

Myha Kilmer also singled in a run in the second inning.

Lakeland advances to Wednesday’s semifinal at second-seeded Holy Cross, which had a bye.

Alaina Carle’s grand slam helped Northwest get past Carbondale, 7-6, on the way to a game at top-seeded Elk Lake Wednesday.

Forest City shut out Mountain View, 7-0, in the only District 2 Class A game.

The Lady Foresters move into Thursday’s semifinals at second-seeded Blue Ridge.

Scranton defeated Wilkes-Barre Area, 12-2, in the District 2-4 Class 6A quarterfinals.

The Lady Knights will play at top-seeded Williamsport in Wednesday’s semifinals.
