ROUNDUP: Kelly leads DV victory

Delaware Valley, Scranton Prep and Lake-Lehman opened their boys lacrosse seasons Wednesday with Wyoming Valley Conference victories.

Xander Kelly scored five goals while Peyton LaRocca added four when Delaware Valley defeated host North Pocono, 17-3.

Kelly and LaRocca were also among four players with two assists each, including Brady Quinn, who added two goals.

The Warriors led 10-1 at halftime and 15-2 heading to the fourth quarter.

Rob Watkins had five goals and two assists while Will McGrath had four goals and two assists as Scranton Prep won at Abington Heights, 12-5.

Lake-Lehman defeated Tunkhannock, 9-4, with the help of five goals by Colby Roberts.

Among the other highlights of Wednesday events around District 2:

BOYS TENNIS

Abington Heights, Wyoming Seminary and Dallas remained undefeated in league play with 5-0 victories.

Abington Heights, which defeated Honesdale in a Lackawanna League match, has not allowed a team point during a District 2-best 5-0 start.

Wyoming Seminary, which has one non-league loss, improved to 3-0 in the WVC by defeating Tunkhannock.

The Blue Knights won every match in straight sets with the second doubles team of Marco Magnotta-Park Mosley losing just one game in the most decisive of those victories.

The most competitive match was at first singles where Ben Ziegler defeated Zack Keiser, 7-5, 6-4.

Dallas is 2-0 after shutting out Wilkes-Barre Area in another match.

Scranton Prep made it to 3-0, but had a harder time, defeating Delaware Valley, 3-2, in a Lackawanna League match.

Scott Lenio, Noah Ceklosky and Braiden Fallbright combined to win the six singles sets while dropping just 10 games total in Crestwood’s 5-0, WVC sweep of Hazleton Area.

BASEBALL

Hunter Lawall and Jake Kelleher led Wyoming Area to a 12-4, non-league win at Mid Valley.

Lawall started on the mound and struck out 13 in five, one-hit innings.

Kelleher had a double, home run and four RBI.

Evan Melberger went 3-for-3 with two doubles, three stolen bases, two runs and two RBI for Wyoming Area.

The Warriors scored seven runs in the top of the first and led 9-0 after 4½ innings.

Sam Sczesniak hit a three-run homer for Mid Valley.

C.J. Ross and Keaton Phillips drove in two runs each as Delaware Valley defeated Wyoming Seminary, 8-6.

The Warriors scored four runs in the top of the first and led throughout.

SOFTBALL

Gianna Adams got all nine outs by strikeout in a three-inning, no-hitter as Pittston Area routed Hanover Area, 20-0.

The Lady Patriots scored nine runs in each of the last two innings.

Tori Para was 3-for-3 with two RBI while Kallie Booth homered, singled, scored four times and drove in three runs.
