Lexi Kostoff tossed a no-hitter Tuesday, but an unearned run for Carbondale meant Riverside was still tied when it came up in the bottom of the seventh inning.
Leah Pfeiffer fixed that.
Pfeiffer’s two-run homer ended the District 2 Class 3A softball quarterfinal, lifting the host Lady Vikes to a 3-1 victory.
The win sends Riverside (13-7) to top seed and defending champion Mid Valley (17-2) Thursday for a 7 p.m. semifinal. The Lady Vikes handed Mid Valley its only loss on the way to a Lackawanna League Division 2 championship this season.
In other Tuesday quarterfinals:
Holy Redeemer 10, Western Wayne 0
Kendra Santuk went 2-for-2 with four RBI to help back a three-hit shutout by Anne Carter in Holy Redeemer’s five-inning victory.
