ROUNDUP: Upset puts Mt. View into 2A baseball final with Elk Lake

Lackawanna League Division 3 champion Elk Lake and Mountain View each won a pair of games in the first week of the playoffs to set up their Memorial Day 1:30 p.m. District 2 Class 2A championship game at PNC Field in Moosic.

Elk Lake, the second seed, is 18-4. Mountain View, the fourth seed, used the playoff victories to even its overall record at 11-11.

QUARTERFINALS

Elk Lake 11, Holy Cross 1

Seven Elk Lake batters had multiple hits during the five-inning, victory Tuesday.

Elias Owens tossed a four-hitter, striking out 11.

Noah Gesford had two hits, two runs and two RBI to lead the balanced offensive attack.

Montrose 4, Blue Ridge 3

Montrose and host Blue Ridge were tied, 3-3, from the top of the fourth until Andrew Dovin’s solo homer in the top of the 11th.

The Raiders got the tying run into scoring position in the bottom of the inning before the Meteors closed out the Tuesday victory.

Mountain View 7, Lackawanna Trail 0

Carter Bain struck out 11 in Tuesday’s two-hit shutout.

Bronson Kilmer led the offense with two hits and two RBI. Riley Jagger doubled twice and drove in a run. Jackson Gesford had two hits and scored twice.

SEMIFINALS

Mountain View 3, Old Forge 1

Tanner Holtsmaster went 3-for-3 with two RBI as the fourth-seeded Eagles upset the top-seeded Blue Devils.

All of the scoring took place in the fourth inning.

Jagger struck out eight in five innings before Kilmer finished up with two scoreless innings.

Old Forge had closed the regular season with a 17-5 rout of Mountain View.

Josh Spindler and Jake Iacavazzi were each 2-for-3 for Old Forge.

Elk Lake 15, Montrose 10

Noah Gesford and Isaac Gesford each doubled, singled and drove in four runs for Elk Lake in the come-from-behind victory.

Montrose led 6-0 after a half inning and was still up 10-6 through 4½.
