SATURDAY ROUNDUP: DV remains perfect in girls soccer

Liz Butler, Scarlet Sukovitch and Sage Henry scored the goals Saturday as defending champion Delaware Valley went on the road to win a battle of Lackawanna League girls soccer unbeatens, 3-0, at Abington Heights.

Lakeland handed Montrose its first loss, 3-1, in a Lackawanna Division 2 game.

Kirsten Navich, Brooke Hill and Abby Davis had goals for Lakeland, the defending division champions, who avenged a loss in last year’s District 2 Class A final.

In other Lackawanna games: Honesdale edged North Pocono, 2-1, in Division 1; Mountain View shut out Holy Cross, 6-0, in Division 2; and Forest City routed Carbondale, 8-1, while Mid Valley and West Scranton were playing to a 0-0 tie in Division 3.

Madison Meagher and Elizabeth Meagher scored for Honesdale.

Mountain View’s Kylee Kozloski and Forest City’s Audrey Bailer had hat tricks in their teams’ wins.

Dallas shut out Lake-Lehman, 2-0, in a non-league game.

Caelan Gallagher and Kira Pomerinke scored the Dallas goals.

BOYS SOCCER

Dallas shut out Lake-Lehman, 3-0, for the Cleary Cup.

The non-league game annually honors former Dallas soccer and tennis captain Michael J. Cleary, who died while serving in Iraq in 2005.

Eddie Maier, Zack Calkins and Jackson Barr scored for the Mountaineers.

In other non-league games: Wyoming Area downed Western Wayne, 4-1; Lakeland slipped past West Scranton, 2-1, Elk Lake shut out Northeast Bradford, 6-0; Pocono Mountain East edged Honesdale, 4-3; and Selinsgrove routed Wilkes-Barre Area, 8-0.

Kendall Heck had a hat trick for Wyoming Area.

Matt Hunsinger and Evan Berlinski scored for Lakeland.

FIELD HOCKEY

Lake-Lehman rebounded from its first loss to hand visiting Honesdale its first defeat, 3-2, in a Wyoming Valley Conference Division 1 game.

Honesdale had started 4-0.

Wyoming Area picked up a pair of one-goal wins in non-league play, remaining undefeated by beating Line Mountain, 1-0, and Selinsgrove, 3-2.

In other non-league games: Hazleton Area defeated Nanticoke, 5-2, and Wyoming Valley West shut out Hanover Area, 9-0.

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL

Dunmore swept Forest City in three sets in a Lackawanna League Division 1-2 crossover match.

Crestwood won twice in a tri-match at Western Wayne, beating the host Lady Wildcats, 3-1, and Pocono Mountain East, 3-2.

Pocono Mountain East also beat Western Wayne, 3-2.

Nanticoke defeated Wyalusing Valley, 3-2, in a non-league match.

Holy Redeemer suffered its first two losses, both in straight sets, against York Catholic and Sacred Heart Academy of Bryn Mawr at the Big 6 Tournament.

The two losses by Western Wayne were also its first of the season.

GIRLS TENNIS

Valley View won the title of the Quad County Tournament by defeating Mid Valley and host Honesdale, both by 4-1 scores.

In other matches: Honesdale defeated Wyoming Area, 4-1, and Mid Valley downed Wyoming Area, 4-0.

BOYS AND GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY

Both Blue Ridge teams competed in the McDaniel-Baxter Invitational, considered New York’s “Pre-States” meet, at Chenango Valley State Park in Chenango Forks.

Heath Bowker and freshman Emma Piechocki were the top finishers for the Raiders in the meet, which was run in five stages, because of the size of the field, before the results were merged.

The boys race drew 66 full teams and runners from 17 other schools for 675 total entries. The girls race consisted of 47 full teams and runners from 31 other schools for a field of 463.

Blue Ridge finished 42nd in the boys team standings and 33rd in the girls.

Bowker placed 124th in 18:59.6. Duncan Geyer was 198th in 19:45.1.

Max Ksenich was 219th in 19:57.2 as the first of the three freshmen that were part of the boys score.

Piechocki was 86th in 22:20.4. Cameron Robinson placed 145th in 23:43.6.
