Crestwood’s offense ran at peak efficiency Friday night.
The Comets completed every pass and averaged more than 11 yards on their runs while overpowering host Wyoming Valley West, 49-21, in a Wyoming Valley Conference Division 1 game.
Noah Schultz ran for four first-half touchdowns as the Comets opened a 35-0 halftime lead, putting the entire second half into the Mercy Rule.
More than half of the Comets’ plays produced first downs. In 37 offensive plays, they managed 19 first downs and 7 touchdowns.
Crestwood averaged 11.2 yards per rush and 11.8 per play while piling up 433 yards total offense.
Schultz led the ground game with 15 carries for 148 yards. He ran for two touchdowns in the first quarter and two more during a flurry at the end of the half to make it a Mercy Rule game.
Jaden Shedlock carried 8 times for 97 yards. Brendon Dennis ran 3 times for 55 yards, including a 30-yard touchdown. Colin Lazo’s only carry went for 30 yards and Jason Swank’s only carry was a 7-yard touchdown.
After running for 551 yards without attempting a pass a week earlier against Wyoming Area, the Comets finished with 32 carries for 357 yards and 6 touchdowns.
Shedlock completed all 4 of his passes for 53 more yards and Nick Miscavage’s only pass went to Joshua Hilpp for a 13-yard touchdown.
Schultz ran 1 and 28 yards for touchdowns 2:33 apart late in the first quarter for a 14-0 lead.
Dennis scored with 4:04 left in the second quarter, then Schultz added a 5-yard touchdown before going 75 yards for a score on the last play of the half.
Logan Rolles, who went 7-for-7 on extra points, made it a 35-point lead at the break.
Isaiah Cobb ran 5 yards for a touchdown early in the third quarter and scored again on a 1-yard run in the fourth.
In between, Miscavage passed to Hilpp to make it 42-7 after three quarters.
Swank restored the 35-point lead.
Tyler Mattis broke a 70-yard touchdown run for the Spartans in the fourth quarter.
Jake Dubaskas was in on 14 tackles, including 2 for losses, for Wyoming Valley West.
The 49-point effort was the second straight for Crestwood since suffering its only loss. The Comets are 1-1 in the division and 3-1 overall.
Schultz has 339 yards and 7 touchdowns on 29 caries in the last 2 weeks.
Wyoming Valley West, which was playing its division opener, remained winless.
