Sem avenges field hockey loss

Emma Watchilla scored twice Wednesday as Wyoming Seminary avenged its only loss within District 2 in the past six seasons, beating host Lake-Lehman, 2-1, in a district Class A field hockey semifinal.

Second-seeded Lake-Lehman defeated Wyoming Seminary, 1-0, in their regular-season meeting, forcing the Blue Knights into a position where they needed a playoff with Wyoming Area to win their latest Wyoming Valley Conference Division 1 championship.

After beating Wyoming Area twice, Wyoming Seminary will need to do it again in Tuesday’s District 2 championship game at Wyoming Valley West’s Spartan Stadium in order to return to the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association Class A tournament where it has won a record four straight titles.

Watchilla got Wyoming Seminary started on a goal less than five minutes into Wednesday’s game.

Then, she converted a penalty stroke with 5:41 left in the third quarter for a 2-0 lead.

T Ciaccia scored for Lake-Lehman off a Sage Morgan assist with 42 seconds left in the quarter.

The game matched two of the top three teams in the Golden Dome Abstract Super Six Field Hockey Power Rankings of District 2 teams. Wyoming Seminary is ranked first and Lake-Lehman is third.
