Through a dozen sets of rankings – one in the preseason and 11 weekly updates – Wyoming Seminary and Wyoming Area have been first and second in the Golden Dome Abstract Super Six Field Hockey rankings of District 2 teams.
They remain in those positions one last time, in the final rankings of the season, which were released early Friday afternoon.
Neither team allowed any room for debate.
They are the last two district teams still playing as two of the eight remaining teams in the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association Class A state playoffs, which continue with Thursday’s quarterfinals.
Wyoming Seminary, the three-time defending state champion, was unbeaten overall a year ago and was again unbeaten against District 2 competition.
Wyoming Area is unbeaten in those same two seasons against everybody else except Wyoming Seminary.
The teams could meet again in a potential state final and Wyoming Area could gain revenge there, but regardless, Wyoming Seminary will end up ahead in the season series with its 4-0 Wyoming Valley Conference and 4-1 District 2 championship game victories.
The final rankings are the same as in the next-to-last rankings of the season.
Crestwood was third, followed by Lake-Lehman, Hazleton Area and Honesdale.
Wyoming Seminary won the WVC Division 1 title with Wyoming Area alone in second place and Crestwood in third.
Hazleton Area won the District 2 Class 3A title and Crestwood won the District 2-4 Class 2A Subregional while Wyoming Seminary was claiming its fifth straight District 2 Class A championship.
While Wyoming Seminary and Wyoming Area were winning first-round state tournament games Tuesday, Crestwood and Hazleton Area each lost and had their seasons end. Lake-Lehman, a district Class A semifinalist, and Honesdale, a district Class 3A finalist, had already completed their seasons.
