Shields receives Kutztown offer

NEPA Elite Coyle 17U forward Jason Shields has completed his high school career.

Now, the college recruiting process is heating back up for the non-committed senior from Scranton High School.

Shields received a scholarship offer Tuesday to continue his academic and athletic careers on the National Collegiate Athletic Division II level at Kutztown University, a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference member.

The 6-foot-5 Shields led Scranton to repeats of Lackawanna League Division 1 and District 2-4 Class 6A Subregional titles, along with a trip to the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association state quarterfinals in the largest enrollment classification.

Shields repeated as NEPABasketball.com’s Lackawanna Division 1 Player of the Year and was named Most Valuable Player of the league’s all-star game Monday. He averaged 21.5 points, 6.7 rebounds and 2.8 assists for the Knights.

After helping the Coyle team win 10 of its last 13 games in the 2022 AAU season, Shields had received scholarship offers prior to the start of his senior high school season.

Kutztown went 6-16 in the PSAC and 9-19 overall in the recently completed season.
