Shoats all-state; Fisher top coach

Holy Redeemer senior Justice Shoats was selected to the second team and former University of Scranton all-star guard Jason Fisher was named Coach of the Year Thursday morning when Pennsylvania Sports Writers released their Class 3A all-state boys basketball team.

Shoats led the Royals to their first Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association state semifinal where he scored 29 points when they lost, 73-72, in overtime to eventual state champion Devon Prep.

Fisher, also the school’s athletic director, was chosen as the top coach in Class 3A after guiding Devon Prep’s state title run.

Shoats, who finished with more than 1,500 career points, averaged 20.1 points, 3.6 rebounds, 3.1 assists and 3.0 steals this season. He shot 58 percent from inside the arc, 36 percent on 3-pointers and 79 percent from the line.

The selection of Shoats comes one day after Old Forge junior Joe Macciocco was named to the third team in Class 2A.

Five players and one coach from District 2 were recognized when the all-state girls teams were released last week.
