Abington Heights senior 107-pounder Luke Sirianni wrapped up his high school career with a state silver medal, placing second in Class 3A Saturday when the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association Individual Wrestling Championships concluded at The Giant Center in Hershey.
Sirianni won a semifinal bout in the morning before falling in the championship round at night.
The Army West Point commit started the third and final day of the tournament with a 10-5 decision over Pennridge’s Colby Martinelli.
Keanu Dillard from team champion Bethlehem Catholic defeated Sirianni, 7-1, in the championship match.
Sirianni was the only District 2 wrestler to reach the semifinals in Class 3A, but four others finished in the top eight in their weight classes.
Sirianni went 43-4 on the season and 132-27 for his career. He had finished sixth in the state as ixth in he state as a sophomore and seventh last season.
Teammate Caleb Marzolino finished eighth at 189 pounds.
Marzolino was pinned in the consolation quarterfinals and lost a 3-0 decision to Parkland’s Adrian Gacek in the seventh-place match.
Abington Heights led all District 2 teams, placing 18th out of the 111 teams that qualified at least one Class 3A wrestler for the state event.
Gunnar Myers from Wallenpaupack and Magnus Bibla from Crestwood finished sixth at 133 and 215. West Scranton’s Michael Turi was seventh at 127.
Myers went 1-2 in one-point decisions on the final day, allowing just three points.
Bibla began his day with a 6-0 decision over Armstrong’s Connor Jacobs, then dropped two straight four-point decisions.
Turi lost a decision in the consolation quarterfinals, but came back to pin Easton’s Benjamin Fanelli at the end of the second period in the seventh-place bout.
