SOFTBALL: Trail, Old Forge meet for district Class A championship

Top-seeded Lackawanna Trail and two-time defending champion Old Forge are scheduled to meet for the District 2 Class A softball title Wednesday at 1 p.m. at the University of Scranton.

Each team got there with one playoff victory after receiving a quarterfinal bye in the six-team tournament.

Old Forge defeated Lackawanna Trail, 11-7, in the semifinals last season.

MAY 24 QUARTERFINALS

Forest City 8, Mountain View 4

Forest City snapped out of a slump with the home-field victory.

The Lady Foresters started the season 9-3, winning five straight at one point, but had lost five of their last seven regular-season games.

Blue Ridge 10, MMI Prep 6

Blue Ridge advanced by running its winning streak to four games.

MAY 26 SEMIFINALS

Lackawanna Trail 4, Forest City 3

Lackawanna Trail improved to 10-5, fighting off an upset bid and avoiding ending the season with two straight losses.

The Lady Lions had won seven straight before losing to Montrose, 16-14, in their previous game.

Old Forge 10, Blue Ridge 0

Rachel Murray went 4-for-4 to lead Old Forge to the six-inning victory on the 10-run rule.

The win sent the Lady Devils (10-8) to their 13th district championship game appearance in 16 years.

Old Forge scored in all but one inning, using three runs each in the fourth and fifth to open a 9-0 lead.
