Dunmore moves from one No. 1-vs.-2 matchup to another.
After demolishing Lake-Lehman, 58-19, Friday night in a state quarterfinal meeting of the top two Small School girls teams in the Riverfront Sports Super Six Basketball Power Rankings of District 2 teams, the Lady Bucks will face the top-ranked Class 3A team in the state in Monday’s semifinals.
Lancaster Catholic is the No. 1 Class 3A team in the state rankings compiled by suburban Pittsburgh media outlet TribLive.com. Dunmore is No. 2.
They play in a Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association semifinal Monday night. The site and time will be announced during the weekend.
Dunmore (25-3) is the No. 1 Small School in the Super Six where Lake-Lehman is No. 2.
Montrose, District 2’s other Friday night winner, also learned its semifinal opponent.
The Lady Meteors will meet District 6 champion Homer Center (23-7) Monday.
Montrose (23-4) has posted consecutive wins over teams in the state’s top five in Class 2A, according to TribLive.com. Homer Center is unranked but has been the most dominant team of the four remaining in the bracket, winning 3 games by a total of 89 points, including Friday’s 51-15 rout of Sacred Heart.
District 3 Class 3A champion Lancaster Catholic (26-2) routed Mount Carmel, 47-21, Friday night and has won its three state tournament games by a total of 93 points. Dunmore has won by a combined margin of 88.
