Strong tourneys shape rankings

Lackawanna League powers Abington Heights and Delaware Valley used 5-0 performances in dual meet tournaments to protect their status at the top of the Riverfront Sports Elite Eight Wrestling Power Rankings of District 2 teams while Wyoming Valley West and Pittston Area used a 1-2 finish in the Wyoming Valley Conference Tournament to move up.

Abington Heights (13-0) and Delaware Valley (7-1) remained 1-2 in the latest Elite Eight, which was released Friday afternoon, prior to the start of weekend wrestling action.

Wyoming Valley West moved up from seventh to sixth and Pittston Area rejoined the rankings in seventh after their efforts in the WVC Tournament.

The top five remained the same with Lackawanna Trail, Honesdale and Wallenpaupack following Abington Heights and Delaware Valley.

The top-ranked Comets swept the Blue Streak Duals at Manheim Township and defeated West Scranton in a league match. The second-ranked Warriors won all their matches at the Parkland Duals.

Berwick, the third-place team in the WVC Tournament, held on to eighth in the rankings.

West Scranton, last week’s No. 6, fell from the rankings after a 2-4 week.
