THURSDAY RECAP: Freshman leads ‘Paupack baseball

Freshman Eli Peifer allowed just one hit and one unearned run in 5 1/3 innings Thursday when Wallenpaupack defeated host Scranton Prep, 13-1, in a Lackawanna League Division 1-2 baseball crossover game.

The Buckhorns led just 3-1 before scoring four runs in the top of the fifth and three each in the sixth and seventh innings.

Mabret Levant and Alex Gardsy drove in three runs each. Levant was 2-for-4 with a triple and also scored three times.

Wallenpaupack improved to 4-1 in the Lackawanna League and 7-2 overall.

Elsewhere:

Nick Matson and Derek Cease combined on a one-hitter to lead Nanticoke past Wyoming Area, 5-1, in Wyoming Valley Conference Division 2 baseball.

Matson got the win. Cease struck out five in two hitless innings.

SOFTBALL

Winning pitcher Maranda Runco and Kaylee Terranella each doubled three times as Mid Valley remained unbeaten with an 11-0, five-inning romp at Carbondale in a Lackawanna League Division 3 game.

Runco tossed a one-hitter with eight strikeouts and just one walk. She was 4-for-4 with three runs and two RBI.

Terranella drove in three runs and scored two.

The Spartanettes are 6-0 in the division and 8-0 overall.

BOYS VOLLEYBALL

Abington Heights survived a marathon second set against third-place Western Wayne to remain unbeaten in the Lackawanna League with a 25-12, 34-32, 25-12 victory.
