Tigers down Hawkeyes, 49-14

Tunkhannock ran off six unanswered touchdowns, including three in a span of 4:37 during the third quarter, Friday night to defeat host Hanover Area, 49-14, in a Wyoming Valley Conference Division 2 football game.

Both teams come out of the night with 1-1 overall records. Tunkhannock has played both its games in the division. Hanover Area was playing its division opener.

The teams were tied, 7-7, late in the first quarter.

Tunkhannock opened the lead to 22-7 at halftime.

Jayden Ransom ran 14 yards for a touchdown with 6:47 left in the third quarter and Ben Chilson ran for the two-pointer.

Ben Chilson hit Colin Madan with a 6-yard pass for their second touchdown connection of the game and Paige Adams added the kick.

A minute later, Caden Simmers added a touchdown, putting the game into the Mercy Rule at 43-7 with 2:10 left in the third quarter.

Joey Ross scored on a 16-yard run with 8:27 left to make it 49-7.

Both Hanover Area touchdowns came on passes from Christian Torres to Sean Dooner.

Dooner, who caught 6 passes for more than 100 yards, scored from 36 yards for a 7-7 tie midway through the first quarter and from 46 for the final points midway through the fourth.

Chilson and Tenzen Lewis led the Tunkhannock offense. Chilson passed for more than 170 yards and Lewis ran for more than 120.

Lewis ran for the game’s first score and had a 6-yard touchdown run in the second quarter. Chilson’s two-pointer to Ransom 1:33 before halftime created the 22-7 lead.
