Tunkhannock produced both boys and girls titles Saturday when District 2 conducted its diving competition at the Wyoming Valley Catholic Youth Center.
The diving competition is part of the District 2 Swimming Championships, which will conclude with the 11 swimming events Friday and Saturday at Wilkes-Barre Area High School.
Noelle Alguirre won in Class 3A girls while River Strauss won in Class 2A boys for Tunkhannock.
Brianne Dempsey from Dallas repeated as Class 2A girls champion and posted the day’s highest score.
Ethan Horutz from Abington Heights won in Class 3A boys.
The Class 3A meets are District 2-4 Subregional championships.
The largest field of divers was in Class 3A girls where 10 competed.
Alguirre actually came in second and earned second-place points for her team when Williamsport’s Lyndie Peters won the subregional title. She is district champion, however, as District 2’s top finisher.
Williamsport had two of the top three finishers.
Peters won with a score of 260.8.
Alguire edged Williamsport’s Lily Lindsay 223.35-222.25, for second place.
Veronica Matthies from Abington Heights was fourth with 218.30. Etain Starr from Delaware Valley was with 191.80.
Abington Heights had three of the top four finishers in Class 3A boys, giving the Comets a 39-16 lead over Delaware Valley going into the swimming events.
Horutz won by 14.2 points over Williamsport’s Dominick Horning with a score of 238.30.
James Reese was third with 221.45 and James Brust fourth out of seven with 162.05.
Dallas had four of the top five finishers among seven entries in Class 2A girls.
Dempsey won with a score of 262.65.
Leanne Walter from Elk Lake and Megan Kuzma from Dallas were close behind with scores of 254.80 and 250.75.
Emma Miller and Allyson Gattuso gave Dallas two more divers over 200 points.
There were three divers in Class 2A boys and Tunkhannock’s Strauss and Patrick Marbaker finished 1-2.
Strauss won with 145.65. Marbaker posted a score of 125.80.
