Scranton Prep’s celebration of 75 years of boys basketball includes the day’s top matchup between District 2 opponents.
The Cavaliers will honor the program’s history, then take on Dallas in a 6 p.m. game at the Xavier Center.
Dallas, the preseason Wyoming Valley Conference Division 1 favorite, opens its season as the second-ranked Big School in the My City Mortgage Super Six Power Rankings of District 2 teams on NEPABasketball.com.
Scranton Prep, which is ranked fourth, already opened the season with a win over one of the WVC’s top teams, defeating Wilkes-Barre Area, 48-39, Friday night. The Cavaliers have won seven straight District 2 titles.
The basketball schedule includes 14 boys and 15 girls games.
Wilkes-Barre Area will play its home first boys home game in the new school’s gymnasium when the Wolfpack host defending WVC Division 2 champion Wyoming Seminary in a game between teams that both lost Friday openers.
The girls schedule includes Holy Redeemer at Selinsgrove and Wyoming Area at Central Columbia in a pair of night games in which the teams will try to take titles from their hosts in tournament championship games.
Hazleton Area tries to win a tournament on its home court when it takes on Nazareth.
The wrestling schedule also includes at least six tournaments that pull District 2 teams outside the district to begin their seasons. The largest group of District 2 schools is headed to Wyalusing Valley for the Gary Woodruff Duals.
