District 2 sports have reached the point where every game is a playoff.
The District 2 baseball playoffs begin with eight games while the first four softball games are also scheduled and the girls lacrosse playoffs continue with two semifinals.
The lacrosse semifinals are highlighted by Wyoming Seminary, which has won titles every year the sport has been contested on the district level, putting that streak on the line at top-seeded Lake-Lehman.
Wyoming Seminary won the 2011-16 District 2 titles when all teams played in the same tournament. The Blue Knights won Class 2A 2017-19. There were no spring sports contested in Pennsylvania in 2020.
The Blue Knights (13-6 overall) have won 11 of their last 12 games within District 2 with the only loss coming, 11-4, to Lake-Lehman.
Lake-Lehman (18-1) has won 17 straight, including a 28-0 rout of North Pocono in the quarterfinals, since losing to Wyoming Valley Conference champion and tournament second seed Crestwood. Since the 11-4 win over Wyoming Seminary April 26, the Lady Knights have averaged 20.5 goals per game.
Wyoming Seminary defeated Lake-Lehman, 10-9, in the 2019 semifinals.
The other semifinal sends Wyoming Area (12-2) to Crestwood (15-2-1).
Crestwood won, 18-12, when the teams met in a battle of the last two WVC unbeatens April 22.
The top seed also hosts a defending champion in the District 2-4 Class 5A baseball subregional.
Pittston Area is at North Pocono.
The Patriots are 5-11 and on a seven-game losing streak in which five of the losses have come by three runs or less.
The Lackawanna League Division 2 champion Trojans are 14-3.
Pittston Area beat North Pocono, 5-4, in the 2019 championship game when Class 5A was strictly a District 2 tournament.
As is often the case in the quarterfinal round, the games matching fifth and fourth seeds appear to be the most interesting on the baseball schedule.
Selinsgrove (15-5) is at Wyoming Valley West (13-5) in the Class 5A subregional.
The Seals were 2019 state champions when they played in Class 4A.
Western Wayne (10-6) is at Lakeland (12-5) in District 2 Class 3A. They split Lackawanna League Division 3 meetings with Lakeland winning, 10-7, and Western Wayne winning, 3-2.
Forest City won two much different regular-season meetings with Mountain View, the team it hosts today in a District 2 Class A softball quarterfinal. The Lady Foresters won, 24-11 and 6-5.
