Baseball, softball, boys volleyball and boys lacrosse are all on the schedule making, Tuesday the busiest day of a week full of playoff activity in District 2 sports.
The baseball and softball games are all playoff openers for the teams involved. Boys volleyball and boys lacrosse playoffs got underway last week and are down to the semifinal round.
Wyoming Valley Conference champion Holy Redeemer, the top seed, is pursuing a 10th straight district title. The Royals host fifth-seeded Blue Ridge, which will be looking for a second straight road playoff win after beating Western Wayne in the quarterfinals, in a District 1-2-11 Class 2A Subregional semifinal.
Tunkhannock is at Dock Mennonite from District 1.
If Holy Redeemer and Dock Mennonite both win, it would set up a rematch of the only Holy Redeemer loss this season.
Top-seed Delaware Valley hosts Wyoming Valley West and Lackawanna League champion Abington Heights hosts Hazleton Area in the District 2 Class 3A semifinals.
The District 2 Class 2A boys lacrosse semifinals are the same as in 2019, when the sport was last contested before the 2020 season was canceled.
Defending champion, top seed and WVC champion Crestwood hosts Dallas.
Scranton Prep is at Wyoming Seminary. Scranton Prep won the 2019 semifinal, but Wyoming Seminary won this year’s WVC matchup, 12-8.
The baseball schedule features 8 district or subregional games spread across Class 6A, 4A and 2A while there are 11 softball games, with action in the 5A, 4A, 3A and A tournaments.
The top baseball matchup could 2019 District 2 Class A champion Old Forge at Lackawanna League champion Lackawanna Trail, the second seed, in a Class 2A quarterfinal.
In the same half of the Class 2A bracket, Blue Ridge (7-6) is at Elk Lake (11-7) in the only baseball game between two teams with winning records.
Mountain View (9-9) is at Northwest (9-7) and Holy Cross is at unbeaten Lackawanna League Division 3 champion Riverside in the other half of that bracket.
The Class 4A bracket could prove interesting in softball.
Hanover Area (10-5) is at Valley View (10-8), Wyoming Area (9-8) is at Lackawanna League Division 2 champion Honesdale (13-4) and defending champion Scranton Prep (7-8) is at Berwick (11-8).
Wyoming Valley Conference champion Tunkhannock (17-2) is home against Dallas, which is 7-10, but has victories over 13-win teams Hazleton Area and Pittston Area.
The Class 5A tournament is a subregional with District 4 and includes Shikellamy (10-10) at North Pocono (8-7).
