There is just one event on the District 2 sports schedule for Sunday, but it’s a good one.
North Pocono is at Abington Heights in a Lackawanna League Division 1 golf match at Glen Oak Country Club at 4 p.m.
The match brings together two of the division’s top three teams and two of the top three Big School teams in the Scranton Golf Center Super Six Power Rankings of District 2 teams.
Both teams have one loss against unbeaten division leader and defending Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association state Class 2A champion Scranton Prep.
Abington Heights, the defending District 2 Class 3A champion, is the higher-ranked team and the defending District 2 Class 3A champion.
North Pocono has the more impressive comparative scores so far this season.
The teams are 2-1 and tied for second in the division.
Abington Heights, which is 3-1 overall, is the top-ranked Big School. The Comets have four starters back from the team that finished fifth in the state in Class 3A last season.
North Pocono gave Scranton Prep the closer battle, falling 5-4, and also had the more impressive win over Wallenpaupack, 8-1. The Trojans are ranked third.
Abington Heights lost to the Cavaliers, 6½-2½, and beat Wallenpaupack, 5½-3½.
North Pocono’s lineup is led by defending District 2 Class 3A individual champion Bill Pabst.
