A relatively light fall weekday of sporting events around District 2 could be lightened up further on Thursday if predictions for steady afternoon rain prove to be accurate.

There are 41 events scheduled across 5 sports, but only the 9 girls volleyball matches appear to be a certainty.

Highlighting the schedule is a No. 1 at No. 2 meeting among teams in the Big School half of the Riverfront Sports Super Six Girls Tennis Power Rankings of District 2 teams.

First-place Abington Heights (10-0) is at North Pocono (7-2) in a Lackawanna League match. The Lady Trojans are fourth in the standings of the 15-team league.

The other top event on the schedule is the latest meeting between two teams that have consistently battled near the top of their division and class in recent seasons.

Wyoming Area is scheduled to play on the artificial turf at Lake-Lehman at 3:45 p.m. in a Wyoming Valley Conference Division 2 girls soccer game.

The Lady Warriors are in third place in the division, but ranked second among Small Schools in the Riverfront United Super Six Soccer Power Rankings of District 2 teams. They are 3-1 in the division and 4-2 overall.

The host Lady Knights are tied for first in the division, but ranked fourth in the Super Six. They are 4-0 and 6-4.

In boys soccer, Dallas (4-0-1, 5-0-1) is at Tunkhannock (2-1) in Wyoming Valley Conference Division 1.

There are also field hockey games on the schedule.

Prior to the negative weather forecast, Thursday would have been the first quarter of playoffs in Lackawanna League Class 2A golf to determine the finalist in the District 2 team championship.
