Top-ranked teams ready for test

Scranton Prep has taken over as the new No. 1 girls team in the Riverfront Sports Super Six Swimming Power Rankings of District 2 teams in time to put both top-ranked teams at the same location Wednesday night.

When the new rankings came out Wednesday afternoon, Scranton Prep replaced Dallas the top team in girls.

Delaware Valley and Scranton Prep are scheduled to go head-to-head in Lackawanna League boys and girls meets Wednesday at 7 p.m. at the University of Scranton.

Dallas, which as the No. 2 team in both boys and girls, swept Wyoming Seminary in a similar Wyoming Valley Conference meet Monday. The four teams went into the team with just one WVC loss combined.

Wednesday night in Scranton, the four teams in action will have just two losses. The last three Lackawanna unbeatens are participating along with the Scranton Prep boys (4-2).

Delaware Valley retained its top boys ranking with the help of a 107-78 victory over previously unbeaten Abington Heights.

Since the previous rankings were released two weeks earlier, the list of boys unbeatens has been trimmed from five to two while the girls unbeatens have gone from four to three.

Dallas held the second boys ranking by handing both Tunkhannock and Wyoming Seminary their first conference defeats.

Tunkhannock downed Wyoming Seminary, 60-33, for second place in the WVC and moved from fourth to third in the Super Six.

Abington Heights also gained a spot to fourth.

Wyoming Seminary dropped from third to fifth.

Hazleton Area replaced Holy Redeemer in the sixth spot.

There is more movement in the girls rankings.

Scranton Prep is at No. 1 with a 6-0 record and the wins coming by an average of 96 points.

Dallas slipped from first to second after its 100-83 victory over Wyoming Seminary.

Delaware Valley takes the No. 3 ranking and an unbeaten record into the meet against Scranton Prep. The Lady Warriors traded places with Wyoming Seminary, which is now fourth.

Berwick moved up from sixth to fifth.

Elk Lake rejoined the rankings in sixth after knocking former No. 5 Abington Heights out of the rankings with a 111-72 victory.
