Claire Aufiero scored 14 points to lead a balanced attack Tuesday night as Nanticoke avenged an early-season loss and eliminated visiting Tunkhannock, 57-40, in a District 2 Class 4A girls basketball quarterfinal.
Fourth-seeded Nanticoke (10-13) pulled away from a tight game in the second half to move into Friday’s semifinal at top-seeded Scranton Prep (19-2). The Classics had a bye Tuesday.
Tunkhannock finished 7-15.
Aufiero was 7-for-10 from the line and the Trojanettes were 18-for-29 as a team.
Sophia Lukowski added 12 points in the win, Nevaeh Baron had 9 and Caitlyn Majiros 8.
Sable Stephens led Tunkhannock with 14 points while Erin Van Ness and Lexi Corby added 9 each.
Van Ness had two of the four 3-pointers the Lady Tigers used to remain even, 12-12, after one quarter.
Stephens had 11 of Tunkhannock’s 13 second-quarter points as the Lady Tigers remained within 28-25.
Nanticoke took control with a 12-5 third quarter and the Trojanettes again outscored the Lady Tigers by seven in the fourth.
