Trojans, Spartans land top spots

North Pocono and Mid Valley are still trying to climb to the top of their respective Lackawanna Track Conference divisions as they chase 2019 District 2 championship teams, but they open the first Riverfront Sports Super Six Boys Track and Field Power Rankings in the top spots.

North Pocono is ranked first among Big Schools (Class 3A) while Mid Valley leads the Small Schools (Class 2A).

The Trojans are 1-0 in Lackawanna Track Conference Division 2 and also have a crossover win over LTC Division 1 leader and number-two Big School team Valley View.

Mid Valley is 2-0 in LTC Division 3 to rank behind 2019 division and District 2 Class 2A champion Lakeland, which is ranked No. 2 among Small Schools.

Track and field is the only spring sport in which District 2 does not track complete non-league records for playoff qualifying purposes. The LTC schedules crossovers, but does not include them in the league standings. Crossovers and non-league meets are considered in these rankings, but because of the possibility of inconsistent or incomplete records being available, teams are listed in the Super Six by their divisional records.

Hazleton Area, Wyoming Valley West, Abington Heights and Wallenpaupack occupy the third through sixth spots among Big Schools.

No. 3 Hazleton Area opened this week with a 77-68 victory that knocked No. 4 Wyoming Valley West (3-1) out of the Wyoming Valley Conference Division 1 lead.

Abington Heights is 1-0 in LTC Division 1.

Wallenpaupack, the District 2 Class 3A champion in the last previous spring season (2019), leads North Pocono in LTC Division 2 with a 3-0 record.

WVC Division 2 leader Wyoming Area is ranked third.

Three teams with 2-1 division records – Holy Cross, Lake-Lehman and Hanover Area – complete the Small School Super Six.

The Riverfront Sports girls lacrosse, boys volleyball and boys lacrosse rankings were released earlier by NEPASportsNation.com. Initial rankings for other sports will be released daily, then each will be updated on a weekly basis.
