Trojans stop Warriors, expand lead

A.J. Nemitz made five 3-pointers and scored 20 points Tuesday night as North Pocono stretched its lead in Lackawanna League Division 2 boys basketball with a 53-42 win over host Delaware Valley.

The Trojans improved to 5-2 in the league and 9-6 overall, moving two games in front of second-place Honesdale when the Hornets lost to Division 1 leader Abington Heights in a crossover game.

Delaware Valley, which opened the season with six straight wins, slipped to 2-5 and 8-7.

Nemitz connected on two 3-pointers each in the first and second quarters.

Chris Walsh also hit a 3-pointer and added five points to help the Trojans to a 12-8 lead after one quarter.

Nemitz helped counter Jake Brower hitting two 3-pointers and scoring 10 of his 16 points for Delaware Valley in the second quarter. North Pocono led 27-20 at halftime.

North Pocono outscored Delaware Valley 17-13 in the fourth quarter when Nemitz hit his last 3-pointer and went 4-for-4 from the foul line to score his last seven points.

Nemitz helped North Pocono protect its lead when the rest of the Trojans were just 4-for-10 from the line in the fourth quarter.

Walsh finished with 12 points and Noah West had 10.

Delaware Valley also had three players score in double figures. Ronnie McManus had 13 points and Tommy Parker had 10.

North Pocono has won four of its last five and is 8-3 since starting the season 1-3.
