TUESDAY RECAP: Warriors sweep on track

Both Wyoming Area track and field teams took command of Wyoming Valley Conference Division 2 races with victories at Tunkhannock Tuesday.

Wyoming Area improved to 4-0 to lead both races and cut the list of unbeatens in each division from three to two.

GIRLS TRACK AND FIELD

Sophia Gonzales won the 100- and 300-meter hurdles along with the high jump to lead Wyoming Area past Tunkhannock, 77-69.

Olivia Kwiatkowski won the 1600- and 3200-meter runs along with running a leg on the winning 3200 relay.

Anna Scoblick won both hurdles, triple jump and high jump as Abington Heights posted its 81st straight dual meet win, beating Valley View, 110-40, in a Lackawanna Track Conference Division 1 meet.

BOYS TRACK AND FIELD

Connor Hilling and Jack Baronski led the way as Valley View clinched no worse than a tie for first place in Lackawanna Track Conference Division 1 with an 89-61 victory over Abington Heights.

Hilling won the 100- and 200-meter dashes, along with running a leg on the winning 400-meter relay team to lead Valley View. Baronski won the 1600 and 3200.

Rocco Pizano, who also led off the winning 400 relay team, and Usamah Alansari won three individual events each as Wyoming Area defeated Tunkhannock, 110-40.

Pizano won the 100, 200 and the triple Jump. Alansari won the 110 high hurdles, long jump and high jump.

GIRLS LACROSSE

Makenzie Switzer scored seven goals while Emma Kelleher had five goals and five assists as Wyoming Area defeated North Pocono, 21-4, in a WVC game to improve to 10-1 overall.

Rachel Shook and Lilian Raczkowski scored six goals each in Lake-Lehman’s 23-3 WVC romp over Wilkes-Barre Area.

Conference leader Crestwood got goals from 11 different players in a 20-4 win over Tunkhannock.

SOFTBALL

Akira Kopec had three hits and Jenna Santuk allowed just three hits as Holy Redeemer remained undefeated with a 4-1, WVC Division 2 victory over Lake-Lehman.

Kopec was 3-for-3 with two doubles and two runs scored.

Santuk struck out 10 and did not walk a batter in her 3-hitter.

The Royals are 6-0 in the division and 10-0 overall.

Sommer Zier-Norris had two of the three runs and the only run for Lake-Lehman (3-3, 6-4).

BASEBALL

Bryce Molinaro, Brett Antolick and Jatnk Diaz all had three hits as Hazleton Area protected its perfect record by routing Crestwood, 16-1, in four innings in a WVC Division 1 game.

Molinaro was 3-for-3 with a homer, triple, double, four runs batted in and two runs scored. Antolick scored three times and drove in three runs. Diaz doubled, scored twice and drove in two runs.

BOYS TENNIS

Crestwood swept Wyoming Area, 5-0, in a competitive WVC match.

Alex Covelens-Noah Parlington won first doubles in three sets.

Julien Lacoste won second singles with the help of a first-set tiebreaker.

Ben Ziegler and Kurt Grenzberg won the other singles matches with the help of winning a 7-5 set.

Brayden Fenwick-Ryan Kostick won the other point for Crestwood (7-1).

Wyoming Area fell to 5-4.
