WA, Sem climb in final rankings

Wyoming Area and Wyoming Seminary used strong finishes that included road playoff wins over higher-seeded and then higher-ranked teams to move up in the final Riverfront Sports Girls Lacrosse Power Rankings of district teams.

Crestwood and Abington Heights finished as an unquestioned 1-2 in the rankings, which were released Thursday morning.

Wyoming Area moved up from fifth to third and Wyoming Seminary moved into the rankings in fourth.

Crestwood was unbeaten within District 2 while going 19-3. The Lady Comets won Wyoming Valley Conference and District 2 Class 2A titles.

Abington Heights suffered its only two losses against Crestwood, including 12-8 in the district championship game.

Wyoming Area put together a five-game winning streak between losses to Crestwood late in the regular season and again in the district semifinals. The Lady Warriors won at Dallas, 16-15, in the district quarterfinals. They won the last seven games that were not against No. 1 Crestwood.

Wyoming Seminary beat Scranton Prep, 10-8, in the district quarterfinals then battled No. 2 Abington Heights before falling, 10-9, in the semifinals. The Blue Knights were 8-3 over the final 11 games with a pair of one-goal losses and a two-goal loss.

Scranton Prep dropped from third to fifth following its quarterfinal loss.

Dallas, which had been fourth, fell from the rankings.
