Alyse Wanchisen each scored one goal and assisted on another Nov. 8 as Crestwood opened the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association Class 2A state field hockey tournament with a 3-1 victory over visiting West Chester East.
Wanchisen opened the scoring 1:23 into the second quarter on an assist from Emma Guydish.
Crestwood made it 2-0 when Guydish scored unassisted 59 seconds later.
West Chester East cut the deficit to one with 3.2 seconds left in the first half when Carey Werley scored.
Crestwood stopped five penalty corners and four shots by West Chester East in the third quarter to maintain a one-goal lead.
The Lady Comets bounced back to get three penalty corners in the fourth quarter, cutting West Chester East’s final advantage in that category to 6-4.
Crestwood eventually added an insurance goal when Wanchisen assisted Kylah Kelly’s goal with 1:40 left.
The Lady Comets finished with a 12-8 lead in shots.
Isabella Caporuscio made four saves, three in the third quarter, in the win.
Claire Madorasz had five saves for West Chester East.
