Whitney Point (N.Y.) spoiled Montrose’s home opener Friday night with a 12-0 shutout in a non-league football game.
The game matched two teams trying to rebuild programs.
Whitney Point is in its first year back on the 11-man level after playing 8-man football, an option that exists for rural New York State schools, in recent years.
Montrose is playing an independent season after dropping out of the Lackawanna Football Conference, at least temporarily.
Both teams broke losing streaks earlier this season and came in with 1-2 records.
The Eagles scored a touchdown in each of the first two quarters for a 12-0 halftime lead and neither team scored in the second half.
