Williamsport, DV girls take titles

PLAINS TWP. – Williamsport won five individual and two relay events to take home the title of the District 2-4 Class 3A Subregional Girls Swimming and Diving Championships, which were conducted Friday and Saturday at Wilkes-Barre Area High School.

The Lady Millionaires finished with 325 points.

Delaware Valley finished second in the overall standings with 213 points, but won the District 2 title. Williamsport competes in the event as the only representative from District 4.

Williamsport’s Sydney Kelley won the 200-yard freestyle and the 100 freestyle. She was also a part of the two winnings freestyle relays along with Molly Garrison, Aubrey Glosser and Kendall Cohick.

Cohick also got first-place points with a win in the 100 butterfly and 100 backstroke.

Delaware Valley’s Kate Prior, Anaya Ruiz, JoAnn Jagger and Olivia Cruz finished second in the 200 medley relay. Ruiz added points by taking third in the 50 freestyle and 100 breaststroke.

Tunkhannock, which finished third in the standings with 204 points, was led by the winning 200 medley relay team of Emma Holdredge, Samantha Roerig, Julianna Roote and Noelle Alguire. Roerig also took second in the 100 butterfly and 100 breaststroke.

Madelyn Frey won Berwick’s only two individual events in the 200 individual medley and 100 breaststroke.

Nanticoke’s Cassandra Cabonilas won the 50 freestyle for the second year in a row, and took second in the 100 backstroke.

Tunkhannock topped Hazleton Area for third place, 204-144. Abington Heights was fifth with 121, followed by: Berwick 121, Pittston Area 73, Nanticoke 47, Wyoming Valley West 45, Wilkes-Barre Area 44, Scranton 17 and West Scranton 12.
