Winter sports dates to know

Fall sports are down to eight District 2 teams – seven football teams and one field hockey team.

It’s time to get winter sports started.

Here are some key dates coming up:

November 19, 2021

First official practice date of winter sports, highlighted by boys and girls basketball, wrestling and boys and girls swimming.

November 26, 2021

Teams are allowed to scrimmage against or practice with other schools for the first time.

December 10, 2021

The first legal date for regular-season competition. Primarily a date for non-league games in basketball and non-league matches in wrestling, it is also Opening Day of Lackawanna League and Wyoming Valley Conference boys swimming and girls swimming.

December 15, 2021

Opening Night for Lackawanna League and Wyoming Valley Conference wrestling.

January 3, 2022

Opening Night for Lackawanna League boys basketball and Wyoming Valley Conference girls basketball.

January 4, 2022

Opening Night for Lackawanna League girls basketball and Wyoming Valley Conference boys basketball.

February 5, 2022

Last possible date for district team wrestling competition.

February 10-12, 2022

State team wrestling championships at Giant Center, Hershey.

Feb. 25-26, 2022

District 2 Individual Wrestling Championships at Wilkes-Barre Area High School.

February 26, 2022

Last regular-season contest date for boys basketball, girls basketball, boys swimming and girls swimming.

March 3-5, 2022

District 2 Basketball Championships at Mohegan Sun Arena at Casey Plaza.

March 5, 2022

Last possible date for boys swimming and girls swimming.

March 10-12, 2022

State individual wrestling championships at Giant Center, Hershey.

March 16-19, 2022

State swimming and diving championships, Bucknell University.

March 24-26, 2022

State basketball championships at Giant Center, Hershey.
