Tournament Most Valuable Player Darryl Wright got Holy Redeemer off to a fast start Wednesday night while leading the Royals to the championship of the Robert McGrane Memorial boys basketball tournament with a 43-33 victory over Crestwood at the Wyoming Valley Catholic Youth Center.
Wright led a balanced attack with 11 points, all of which came in the first half.
Holy Redeemer led 18-10 after one quarter. Wright had eight of the points in the quarter, then hit his third 3-pointer during the second quarter, which ended with the Royals in front, 28-19.
Lou Lussi, who also did all his scoring in the first half, and Zach Perta added 10 points each in the win.
Crestwood was led by Drew Sechleer with 12 points.
Sechleer received the tournament’s Sportsmanship Award.
Hanover Area 72, Lake-Lehman 29
Hanover Area routed Lake-Lehman in Wednesday’s third-place game.
Holy Redeemer 60, Hanover Area 31
Wright and Jacob Hunter had 13 points each during Tuesday night’s first-round rout.
Hunter scored 11 points when the Royals ran out to a 27-8 lead after one quarter.
Luis McKay hit three 3-pointers while scoring nine points to lead Hanover Area.
Crestwood 73, Lake-Lehman 34
Sechleer and Chaz Wright scored 14 points each to lead four Crestwood players in double figures during a romp through Tuesday’s opening round.
Mason Czapla added 13 points and Matt Sklarosky had 12.
Spencer Smith hit three 3-pointers while leading Lake-Lehman with 11 points.
