WVC champions move up

The Crestwood boys and Dallas girls used Wyoming Valley Conference championship efforts to move up to second place in this week’s Century Dental Associates Cross Country Power Rankings of District 2 teams.

The new rankings were released Saturday night.

While the Lackawanna League has one more cluster meet remaining for every team, the WVC completed its regular season Wednesday. The Ed Narkiewicz WVC Coaches Championship Meet is scheduled for Wednesday at the Wyoming County Fairgrounds.

Crestwood jumped up two spots to second after knocking off previously unbeaten Holy Redeemer to finish tied for first with the Royals at 15-1. It is the second straight first-place tie for the Comets, who shared the title with Lake-Lehman last season.

Dallas completed a perfect, 16-0 run through the WVC girls schedule and slipped past Montrose into second.

No. 1 Abington Heights, Dallas and Montrose are all unbeaten going into the finale that includes Abington Heights and Montrose squaring off.

Abington Heights has the only unbeaten boys record and also remains on top of those rankings.

Honesdale held third in boys while Holy Redeemer slipped from second to fourth.

Scranton and Lake-Lehman held fifth and sixth after each going 3-0 this week.

Berwick finished fourth in the WVC and gained one spot into seventh, trading places with Elk Lake.

Pittston Area, the only team to beat Crestwood, held ninth after having the final week bye in the WVC.

Valley View won three times and gained one spot into 10th. The Cougars trade places with Dallas, which is now 11th.

Scranton Prep knocked Montrose out of the rankings, taking over the 12th and final spot.

After Abington Heights, Dallas and Montrose, the next three spots were unchanged in the girls rankings.

Crestwood, Scranton and Honesdale are followed by Lake-Lehman, which used three wins to gain two spots into seventh.

Wallenpaupack, Holy Redeemer, Wyoming Area, North Pocono and Delaware Valley round out the rankings. Holy Redeemer and North Pocono each gained one spot this week.
