WVC title pursuers lead rankings

One No. 1 team wrapped up a title while another took a step in that direction Friday.

Crestwood used its Wyoming Valley Conference Class 3A Division championship to remain on top of the Big Schools when the latest Riverfront Sports Super Six Golf Power Rankings of District 2 teams were released late Sunday afternoon.

Lake-Lehman had a 5-0 week, clinching no worse than a tie in the WVC Class 2A Division and remained in first among Small Schools.

The only changes this week were at the bottom of each rankings with the former No. 6 teams trading places with the teams that had been immediately ahead of them.

Holy Redeemer avenged an earlier loss, beat Wyoming Seminary head-to-head and moved a half-match ahead of the Blue Knights in WVC Class 2A. The Royals used that result to go from sixth to fifth in Small Schools.

Wyoming Area took advantage of two losses by Wallenpaupack to take over Big School No. 5.

Crestwood is followed in Big Schools by Abington Heights, Hazleton Area and North Pocono in second, third and fourth.

Lake-Lehman is followed in Small Schools by Scranton Prep, Riverside and Lackawanna Trail.

No. 2 teams and unbeaten Lackawanna League division leaders met for a non-league match that Abington Heights won a close stroke play match over Scranton Prep, which did not impact the rankings.
