Wyoming Area joins rankings; showdown set for league lead

Following a shuffle at the bottom of the rankings, a showdown in the top half is all set in the Riverfront Sports Elite Eight Boys Tennis Power Rankings of District 2 teams.

The only changes in the latest rankings are Scranton and Delaware Valley sliding up one spot each into sixth and seventh, with Wyoming Area joining the list in eighth as MMI Prep falls out of the rankings.

The top five are unchanged in the new rankings, which were released early Friday morning.

The Friday schedule features two of District 2’s three unbeaten teams and two of the top four in the rankings going head-to-head for the Lackawanna League lead.

Second-ranked Abington Heights will host fourth-ranked Valley View in a match between the teams tied for the best record in the district at 10-0.

Wyoming Valley Conference unbeaten Dallas remains No. 1 while WVC leader Wyoming Seminary, which suffered its only loss outside the district, continues to hold down the third spot.

Scranton Prep remains in fifth.

Weather postponements kept the schedule light and teams from last week’s rankings went a combined 6-2.

MMI Prep lost to unranked Wilkes-Barre Area, 4-1, leading to the Preppers being dropped from the rankings.

Delaware Valley fell to 7-4 with a 4-1 loss to Valley View, but all four of the team’s losses are against higher-ranked opponents.

Wyoming Area has won three straight, including Thursday’s 3-2 victory over Holy Redeemer in a meeting between winning WVC teams.
