Wyoming Area is final No. 1

Wyoming Area used its three Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association playoff victories to reach the state championship game for the first time ever and solidify its position as the No. 1 team in the final Golden Dome Abstract Super Six Field Hockey Power Rankings of District 2 teams.

The Lady Warriors took over the top spot for the second time this season in the previous rankings, which were posted two weeks ago, following the completion of district tournaments.

Regardless of Wyoming Area’s result in Saturday’s state Class A championship game against unbeaten Boiling Springs at 11 a.m. at Cumberland Valley High School in Mechanicsburg, Wyoming Area will remain in the No. 1 spot.

The Lady Warriors (22-2) are District 2 champions. They have posted 16 shutouts.

Wyoming Seminary, which won two of three meetings with Wyoming Area, is the No. 2 team. The Blue Knights won the Wyoming Valley Conference Division 1 title in a playoff with the Lady Warriors, but missed out on the state tournament when they lost in the District 2 Class A final.

Honesdale, Lake-Lehman, Crestwood and Lackawanna Trail held the third through sixth spots.

District 2 Class 3A champion Honesdale posted its first state tournament victory on a way to a berth in the PIAA quarterfinals.

Lake-Lehman finished third in WVC Division 1 and reached the District 2 Class A semifinals.

Crestwood won District 2 and reached the state quarterfinals in Class 2A.

Lackawanna Trail was the other District 2 Class A semifinalist.
