Nina Angeli scored the game’s only goal Thursday as Wyoming Area earned another shot at Wyoming Seminary with a 1-0 victory over Lackawanna Trail in the District 2 Class A field hockey semifinals.
This is the fifth straight district championship game between Wyoming Area and Wyoming Seminary. All four previous have been won by Wyoming Seminary, which also posted a pair of one-goal victories, one of them in overtime, over Wyoming Area this season.
The teams meet Tuesday at 6 p.m. at Wyoming Valley West’s Spartan Stadium. Unlike two of the previous three seasons, only the district champion advances into the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association state tournament.
Wyoming Seminary is the five-time defending district and four-time defending state champion.
Wyoming Area secured the rematch with the help of a goal off a penalty corner 1:55 before halftime. Bianca Pizano had the assist.
Rylee Muniz needed only two saves to post the shutout.
Wyoming Area had advantages of 11-4 in shots and 12-7 in penalty corners.
