Yakubowski, Pollock lead Cougars to Class 3A boys swimming title

Logan Yakubowski and Thomas Pollock each won four events Friday and Saturday to lead the way as Hazleton Area captured the Class 3A boys title in the District 2 Swimming Championships at Wilkes-Barre Area High School.

Yakubowski won the 200-yard individual medley and 100 breaststroke. Pollock won the 50 and 100 freestyles. They were both part of 200 medley and freestyle relay wins.

Ryan Kovalick, Liam Leonard and Antonio Daiute all had one individual win and were part of two relay wins as Hazleton Area scored 369 points to beat out Delaware Valley (328) and Abington Heights (249) for the team title.

Kovalick, who won the 500 freestyle, and Leonard, who won the 100 backstroke, were each part of the 200 medley relay and 400 freestyle relay.

Daiute won the 200 freestyle and was on both winning freestyle relay teams.

Cole Johnson and James Wohlleber were each part of one of the relay wins.

Robert Holdrith took the 100 butterfly for Delaware Valley’s only event win.

Scranton was fourth with 117 points, followed by Wyoming Valley West with 84, Wilkes-Barre Area 70 and Pittston Area 55.
