While a clear separation has developed among the rest of the ranked teams, Wyoming Seminary and Delaware Valley have built up similar credentials in the early weeks of the boys lacrosse season.
The No. 1 and No. 2 teams in the Riverfront Sports Boys Lacrosse Power Rankings of District 2 teams will get to make their case head-to-head on the field Friday when Delaware Valley travels to top-ranked Wyoming Seminary for a meeting of two of last season’s tri-champions of the Wyoming Valley Conference.
When the latest rankings were released late Sunday morning, all five teams remained the same because the results of other meetings between ranked teams dictated that being the case.
Top-ranked Wyoming Seminary won twice, including over No. 5 Dallas.
No. 2 Delaware Valley suffered its first loss in a game outside the district, but won its other two games, including an 18-3 rout of No. 3 Crestwood.
Crestwood, the other tri-champion from 2022 protected its No. 3 ranking by decisively beating the No. 4 and No. 5 teams Scranton Prep and Dallas.
For Scranton Prep, it was the first loss of the season.
All four teams remain in the spots they were in a year ago.
Dallas slipped to 3-3, but held the fifth ranking by beating Abington Heights, one of the other candidates for that spot, 9-6.
Lake-Lehman, last season’s final No. 5 and the other team in the argument to complete the five-deep rankings, is 2-4 with three losses to ranked teams.
Wyoming Seminary’s week will include two games against ranked opponents, but both at home. The Blue Knights play fourth-ranked Scranton Prep Monday.
During its 5-0 start, Wyoming Seminary has outscored opponents, 95-19, or an average of 19-3.8.
Delaware Valley is 6-1, winning its four games within District 2 by a total of 72-10, an average of 18-2.5. The Warriors lost, 11-10, to Easton, a District 11 team with a 6-2 record and a potential Class 3A subregional opponent in the postseason.
