The Wallenpaupack girls and Wyoming Area boys used their district championship efforts to climb to the top of the final Riverfront Sports Super Six Track and Field Power Rankings of District 2 teams.
Wallenpaupack, in Big School girls, and Wyoming Area, in Small School boys, each moved up from second to first after ending district title reigns by unbeaten division champions.
The rankings combine an assessment of teams’ strength for both dual meet and invitational/championship meet competition.
Big School rankings are for Class 3A teams in the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association and District 2 while Small School rankings are for Class 2A teams.
The season is down to its final event, Friday and Saturday’s PIAA Championships at Shippensburg University where there is team scoring, but only the district’s top individual athletes will be in action.
The North Pocono boys and Montrose girls led the other rankings.
Lackawanna Track Conference Division 2 and 1 champions Wallenpaupack and Abington Heights each moved up one spot into first and second in Big School girls after their 1-2 finish in the District 2 Class 3A meet.
Wyoming Valley Conference Division 1 champion Dallas slipped from first to third after placing third.
WVC teams Crestwood, Hazleton Area and Pittston Area remain in the fourth, fifth and sixth spots.
Wyoming Area followed up its WVC Division 2 title with a District 2 Class 2A championship to rise to first in Small School Boys.
LTC Division 3 champion Mid Valley drops from first to second.
Holy Redeemer holds third.
Lake-Lehman rejoins the rankings in fourth.
LTC Division 4 champion Blue Ridge slips one spot to fifth.
Lakeland remains in sixth.
Dunmore falls from the rankings.
The top five teams in the Big School boys rankings remain the same.
LTC Division 2 champion North Pocono is followed by WVC Division 1 champion Crestwood and Valley View, one of three teams that shared the LTC Division 1 title.
The other two LTC Division 1 tri-champions, Scranton and Abington Heights, follow in fourth and fifth.
Hazleton Area used a fourth-place district finish to rejoin the rankings in sixth, knocking out Wallenpaupack.
Montrose held off Wyoming Area in Class 2A girls, the only District 2 title race that came down to the last event, and the LTC Division 4 champion Lady Meteors held off the WVC Division 2 champion Lady Warriors for first in the rankings.
Those two are still followed by Lake-Lehman in third.
Hoy Redeemer moved into fourth, swapping places with LTC Division 3 champion Lakeland, which drops to fifth.
Riverside held sixth when the Lady Vikes, who were third in their division during the regular season, followed up a Robert Spagna LTC Championship Meet title with a third-place district finish.
