Kyle Peters and Jason Lazar drove in three runs each while Brett Antolick had three hits, including a double, Wednesday as Hazleton Area pounded Williamsport, 15-3, at Bloomsburg University to win its 20th straight game and third straight District 2-4 Class 6A Subregional baseball title.
The Cougars ended the game early on the 10-rule, not even needing to bat in the bottom of the fifth inning to close out the victory.
Williamsport scored twice in the top of the first, but Hazleton Area answered with four runs in the bottom of the inning, then batted around to score six times in the second and added four more in the third.
Peters and Lazar were among the Hazleton Area players with two hits. Bryce Molinaro drove in two runs.
Nick Biasi did not allow an earned run while pitching four innings as Hazleton Area’s starter. He did not give up any hits in the second through fourth innings and finished with six strikeouts.
Antolick allowed one run while working the final inning.
Hazleton Area (20-1) advanced to face District 1 third-place finisher Coatesville (16-6) Monday at 4:30 p.m. at the Mountain Top American Legion Field. The Cougars were unbeaten through the end of the subregional tournament last year, only to lose in the first round of state play.
