Lakeland graduate Adam Retzbach signed a professional contract Tuesday with the Baltimore Orioles, the team that selected him in last week’s Major League Baseball Draft.
Baltimore chose the Lehigh University catcher in the 14th round with the 407th overall pick.
Retzbach hit 11 home runs, drove in 46 runs and batted .293 in 50 games as a junior in the 2022 season.
The first-team, all-Patriot League selection was also the first Lehigh baseball player to be named Patriot League Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
The boost in power this season helped add to Retzbach’s status as a prospect, based on his strong arm and defensive skills behind the plate.
