Lackawanna Trail extended an unbeaten streak that dates back to 2019 by defeating the only team to avoid a defeat to the Lions during that stretch.
The Lions opened their Lackawanna League Class 2A Division boys golf season with a 5-4 victory Tuesday over host Mid Valley at Scott Greens.
Lackawanna Trail has won 22 straight Lackawanna matches. The Lions are 21-0-1 in that time with two titles in the old Division 3 before the league switched from four to two divisions for this season. Mid Valley tied Lackawanna Trail in one of two meetings a year ago while finishing second in the division behind the Lions.
Brayden Jones won in singles and in better-ball with partner Lorenzo Domiano for Lackawanna Trail in the final foursome.
Cole Schirg and Grady June also won singles points for the Lions while Gavin June split in both his singles match and in better-ball play with Schirg.
Eddie Kaufman won in both singles and as a better-ball partner with Jayden Winters in the first foursome for Mid Valley. Cody Michaels also had a singles win.
In other Lackawanna League Class 2A matches: Scranton Prep defeated Dunmore, 8-1; Western Wayne downed Blue Ridge, 7½-1½; Carbondale and Old Forge tied, 4½-4½; Holy Cross defeated Mountain View, 6 ½-2 ½; Montrose defeated Forest City, 7-2; and Lakeland defeated Elk Lake, 8-1.
Scranton Prep ran its league unbeaten streak to 85 matches.
Western Wayne’s Spencer Weinczyk, Lucas Putman and Jamie Spencer each won in both singles and better-ball.
Crestwood downed Tunkhannock, 160-173, in a Wyoming Valley Conference Class 3A Division match to become the first District 2 team to reach 4-0 in league play.
Owen Blazick and Derek Johnson each shot even-par, 37 for Crestwood on the Shadowbrook Golf Resort front nine.
Tommy Biscotti added a 41 and Luke Joseph a 45 for the Comets.
Josh Brown’s 40 led Tunkhannock.
