The Dallas and Lakeland girls ended last season as No. 1 teams in the Riverfront United Super Six Soccer Power Rankings of District 2 teams.
Both teams are on top in this year’s preseason rankings, joining the Abington Heights and Wyoming Seminary boys as No. 1 teams when the rankings were announced Monday afternoon.
Dallas won District 2 Class 3A and Wyoming Valley Conference Division 1 girls titles last year while Lakeland won District 2 Class A and Lackawanna League Division 2 titles.
The No. 2 teams in both boys rankings also won district and division championships.
North Pocono, which is second to Abington Heights among Big Schools, won the District 2 Class 3A title and a first-round Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association match to reach the state quarterfinals, as well as claiming the Lackawanna Division 1 championship.
Holy Cross, which is second to Wyoming Seminary in Small Schools, won District 2 Class A and Lackawanna Division 2.
Abington Heights and North Pocono are followed in Big School boys by Dallas, Crestwood, Wallenpaupack and Hazleton Area.
North Pocono used the only state tournament win by a District 2 soccer team to finish as the No. 1 team last season.
Dallas and Holy Redeemer, which is No. 3 among Small School boys, are the highest-ranked team among those that were not listed in final 2021 rankings.
Crestwood is the defending WVC Division 1 champion.
Wallenpaupack finished strong, including a pair of upsets to reach the District 2 Class 3A final.
Hazleton Area won the District 2 Class 4A championship to end last season as the No. 2 team.
Valley View was fourth at the end of last season, but is unranked to start this season.
Wyoming Seminary, Holy Cross and Holy Redeemer are followed in Small School boys by Dunmore, Lake-Lehman and Blue Ridge.
Wyoming Seminary won the District 2 Class 2A championship last season.
Blue Ridge won the Lackawanna Division 3 title.
Wyoming Area ended last season as the top-ranked Small School boys team, but has since switched from Class 2A to 3A, making it a Big School.
Dallas is followed in the Big School girls rankings by Abington Heights, Delaware Valley, Wyoming Valley West, Crestwood and Valley View.
Abington Heights lost to Dallas in the District 2 Class 3A final.
Delaware Valley was another double champion, winning District 2 Class 4A and Lackawanna Division 1.
Wilkes-Barre Area and Berwick were fifth and sixth at the end of last season, but are unranked to begin this season.
Lakeland is followed in Small School girls by Holy Redeemer, Lake-Lehman, Montrose, Wyoming Area and Nanticoke.
Holy Redeemer is the defending District 2 Class 2A champion.
Lake-Lehman won the WVC Division 2 title and reached the District 2 Class 2A final.
