Crestwood has taken over the top Big School position in the first in-season update of the Riverfront Sports Super Six Golf Power Rankings of District 2 teams.
Golf, the first sport allowed to begin under Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association rules, has gone through two full weeks of competition. The new rankings were released Sunday evening.
Crestwood has kept busy in the first two weeks, playing the most matches in the district and remaining unbeaten. With their individual players putting up a series of under-par rounds, the Comets are Wyoming Valley Conference Class 3A Division leaders at 8-0 and came within a stroke of Lake-Lehman in the Tom Tryba Memorial Tournament for WVC teams.
Abington Heights, also off to a strong start, slips from first to second. The Comets won the Bob Simons Classic for Lackawanna League teams and lead the Lackawanna Class 3A Division at 5-0-1.
Unbeaten Class 2A Division leaders Lake-Lehman and Scranton Prep remain 1-2 in the Small School rankings.
Hazleton Area held third among Big Schools and is followed by North Pocono, Honesdale and Wyoming Area.
North Pocono tied Abington Heights Saturday to spoil the Comets’ perfect record and remain unbeaten, a half-match out of the division lead.
Honesdale and Wyoming Area are newcomers to the rankings.
Dallas, which was fourth, and Wallenpaupack, which was sixth, fell from the rankings.
Lake-Lehman, the last team to begin league play with a tri-match Friday, won the Tryba Tournament and has also had multiple under-par rounds despite a limited schedule.
The final four spots in the Small School rankings are held by four of the seven once-beaten teams jockeying for position in the Class 2A Divisions.
Riverside, which suffered its only loss to Scranton Prep, held third while the teams in the bottom half of the rankings shuffled positions.
Lackawanna Trail is fourth, followed by Wyoming Seminary and Montrose.
