Ella Pavlovich had 10 kills and Skylar Long had 10 service aces Tuesday when Western Wayne opened defense of its Lackawanna League girls volleyball title by recovering from dropping the first game to defeat visiting Abington Heights in four sets.
After Abington Heights won the first set, 25-16, Western Wayne won, 25-20, 25-23, 25-3.
The victory extended Western Wayne’s league winning streak to 15 matches. The Lady ‘Cats went 14-0 last season to win Division 1.
Long also had a team-high 10 digs along with 5 kills.
Lauren Beamer had six kills and both of the Western Wayne blocks.
Jacque Morris added nine aces.
Raegan Palmer had 20 assists.
Abington Heights was led by Kate Lloyd with 12 digs and 2 aces. Regan Allison had eight aces and four assists while Olivia Jackson had four kills.
Susquehanna defeated Mountain View, 3-1, and Lackawanna Trail swept Montrose in three sets in other Lackawanna League openers.
With 2021 champion Blue Ridge’s move from Division 2 to Division 1, Mountain View and Susquehanna were the top teams back in the division this season.
Lackawanna Trail could also be a threat in the division after moving down from being in Division 1 last season
In non-league action, Berwick swept Williamsport.
The Lady Bulldogs, last season’s District 2-4 Class 3A Subregional champion, won by scores of 25-13, 25-20, 25-12.
CeCe Isenberg had 18 kills to lead Berwick.
Sarah Steeber had 16 service points, including 6 on aces, and 6 kills. Morgan Nevel had 29 service points, 3 aces, 3 kills and 8 digs. Camille Pinterich had 13 points, 4 on aces, and 10 digs.
