James Sobol found Casey Holzman with touchdown passes in each of the first three quarters Friday night to lead Old Forge past host Mid Valley, 33-7, in a non-league game between Lackawanna Football Conference teams.
The Spartans scored first, but the Blue Devils response was swift.
Sobol found Holzman deep for a 68-yard pass on the next play, creating a 7-7 tie after one quarter.
Holzman finished with 4 catches for 125 yards. Sobol went 8-for-14 for 158 yards and also rushed for 41 yards on 9 carries.
Sobol then ran 2 yards for the go-ahead score with 8:58 left in the second quarter. He hit Holzman with a 36-yard touchdown pass before halftime to give the Blue Devils a 20-7 lead at the break.
Holzman scored again on an 11-yard pass in the third quarter and Frank Pero ran 43 yards for the last score in the fourth quarter.
Old Forge outrushed Mid Valley, 241-25, and outgained the Spartans, 399-202, despite running 17 fewer plays.
Josh Spindler was the leading rusher with 11 carries for 95 yards.
Holzman also had a big game defensively with eight tackles, including a sack and another for a loss, and a fumble recovery.
The Blue Devils improved to 2-2.
Mid Valley fell to 1-3, with the only win coming by forfeit over Holy Cross.
Zach Popko’s 2-yard run gave the Spartans their first-quarter lead.
