Three teams, each members of Wyoming Valley Conference Division 1, have held the top Big School position in the Gaughan Auto Store Super Six Football Power Rankings in the past three weeks.
Crestwood is the latest to make a claim to the spot in the rankings, which are compiled by our partner website, NEPAFootball.com.
Hazleton Area was the No. 1 team for the first six rankings of the season, but Dallas and Crestwood beat the Cougars in consecutive weeks, each using the victory to climb to the top. Crestwood won Friday’s game, 35-14.
The Dallas stay at the top was short. The last two unbeaten Big Schools both lost, leading to juggling of those rankings.
The Mountaineers fell at Berwick, 39-22, while Scranton was losing at home to Valley View, 41-7.
Lakeland, the last unbeaten in District 2, remained No. 1 among Small Schools.
There may be less changes in the rankings in the week ahead. After two straight weeks with three games matching ranked teams, there is just one coming up with No. 4 Small School Dunmore traveling to No. 2 Western Wayne.
Crestwood, which has won five straight and is one of three 6-1 teams in the top half of the Big School rankings, is up from second last week. The Comets host Hanover Area (1-6) Friday.
Valley View also moves up one spot, taking over second after its sixth straight win. The Cougars are at Delaware Valley (3-4) Friday.
After slipping from first to third, Dallas tries to bounce back at home against Wallenpaupack (1-6).
Hazleton Area (5-2) remained in fourth. It plays at Wyoming Valley West (0-7) Friday.
Berwick (4-3) rejoined the rankings in fifth following its win over Dallas. The Mountaineers step outside District 4 to face state-ranked Danville (7-0) on the road.
Scranton (6-1) dropped one spot to sixth. The Knights play at Abington Heights (1-6).
The Small School rankings remained the same.
Lakeland and Western Wayne are followed, in order, by Scranton Prep, Dunmore, Old Forge and Riverside.
Unbeaten Lakeland routed Dunmore, 55-14, and will play at West Scranton (1-6) Friday.
Western Wayne (6-1) ripped Mid Valley, 50-6.
Scranton Prep (5-2) topped Abington Heights, 28-14, and will host North Pocono (3-4) Saturday.
Dunmore’s loss to Lakeland ended a four-game winning streak and dropped the Bucks to 5-2.
Old Forge defeated Susquehanna, 42-13, and is at Holy Cross (0-7) Saturday.
Riverside (4-3) beat Lackawanna Trail, 41-13, and will host Susquehanna (3-4) Friday.
